Every Thurston Bros custom jacket order includes the use of a fit jacket and a professional fit consultation. Fit consultation includes chest circumference evaluation as well as shoulder width and waist circumference recommendations. Additionally, the fit jacket is used to determine custom body and sleeve lengths. All fit recommendations are based on using the fit jacket as a measuring tool for the custom build. Please keep in mind that three customers with the same body measurements will choose three different sizes in the same style (one chooses a tight fit, another prefers a regular fit and the third wants a roomier fit). The fit jacket consultation makes it easy for each customer to get the fit and lengths they desire!
This RAF Flying Jacket is the Late WW2 Multi Panel jacket, a reproduction of the later Irvin jacket that was produced when raw material shortages were at their worst. What started as a way to save materials ended with perhaps the most stylish of all three versions of Leslie Irvin's legendary jacket!
This Multi Panel jacket was graded from an original Irvin in Aero's archives and the result in an authentic body fit and sleeve profile. The sheepskin has been sourced in The UK and tanned to perfectly match the original WW2 material specifications. The jacket is made with buckles that are die cast from originals and perfect repro Air Ministry Zippers or Waldes nickel alloy.
Panel configuration of the Multi Panel jackets may vary slightly from one jacket to the next but the overall feel of a genuine RAF jacket from the mid 1940s has been faithfully replicated. The option for a contrasting color (shown in the photos) is also available in a custom order.
