Every Thurston Bros custom jacket order includes the use of a fit jacket and a professional fit consultation.  Fit consultation includes chest circumference evaluation as well as shoulder width and waist circumference recommendations.  Additionally, the fit jacket is used to determine custom body and sleeve lengths.  All fit recommendations are based on using the fit jacket as a measuring tool for the custom build.  Please keep in mind that three customers with the same body measurements will choose three different sizes in the same style (one chooses a tight fit, another prefers a regular fit and the third wants a roomier fit).  The fit jacket consultation makes it easy for each customer to get the fit and lengths they desire!

Although the introduction of a heavy sheepskin flying jacket, the Type B3, was very popular with flight crews, it proved too bulky and cumbersome at anything but the highest altitudes. The B3 was too much for even the relatively roomy, heavy bombers and it was impossible to wear in the cramped confines of a fighter cockpit.

The Air Force's answer to this dilemma was to produce a lightweight sheepskin jacket in 1939, very much along the lines of the D-1, but with a bi-swing back, adjustable cuffs, and epaulets. This stylish flight jacket has other unusual features such as the side adjustments that feature a unique zip closure waist adjustment method, drawing the bottom of the jacket in at the waist.

The cuffs fasten by stud, and the B6 is the only Air Force shearling jacket with epaulets. B6 jackets had the lowest survival rate of all the Air Force WWII sheepskin jackets, and an original B6 jacket is a very rare item indeed.

Aero's B6 uses original Aero Beacon NY patterns, and follows the Air Force design faithfully.

We recommend Vicenza Horsehide trim (upgrade charge of $45).
