Every Thurston Bros custom jacket order includes the use of a fit jacket and a professional fit consultation. Fit consultation includes chest circumference evaluation as well as shoulder width and waist circumference recommendations. Additionally, the fit jacket is used to determine custom body and sleeve lengths. All fit recommendations are based on using the fit jacket as a measuring tool for the custom build. Please keep in mind that three customers with the same body measurements will choose three different sizes in the same style (one chooses a tight fit, another prefers a regular fit and the third wants a roomier fit). The fit jacket consultation makes it easy for each customer to get the fit and lengths they desire!
Although Aero can add length to most of their styles, they've always felt the best way to make a longer jacket in the slimmer 1930s style was to design a jacket specifically with the extra length that seems to be popular with many customers.
Inspired by an original jacket Aero "spotted on-line," Aero has taken their original 1930's patterns, narrowed the collar slightly, recut the sleeves and upper body, added a high yoke, removed the pleats at the waist, and repositioned the back half belt to the optimum position for the length to reflect the longer half belt versions that started to appear in the late 1930s.
Also, Aero has narrowed the sleeves slightly, changed the button cuff to a strap and buckle, and changed the front to a three-panel, four-pocket set up with less slope to the front of the jacket. The result of these tweaks is a very stylish and unique jacket, yet true to its vintage roots.
For those who prefer a more simple design, Aero has taken this beautifully fitting pattern, simplified the panel configuration and changed the cuff to a button fastening cuff that results in a very different looking jacket--The Plainsman--which is equally correct for the period.
Like all Aero jackets, the Wayfarer can be ordered with a variety of linings, hardware finishes/styles, and thread colors. The jacket can be custom built in a variety of leathers, including Vicenza Italian veg-tanned horsehide, Goatskin, Chromexcel Steerhide, and Chromexcel FQHH. Interior pockets are also available.
